Swaziland

_MAP_Swaziland The Swazis are widely recognised for their friendliness and hospitality. The landscape of the tiny kingdom consists of green hills, sweeping valleys and small hamlets. Although Swaziland is land-locked by South Africa and Mozambique, you will immediately feel you are in a different country. Meet the friendly locals, admire the serenity of its nature reserves and enjoy the abundant birdlife. This is the place to completely unwind from every day's stress

Population
Artificats dating back over 200 thousand years, shows human activity since the early Stone Age. Now Swaziland has about 1.1 million inhabitants. The country is a monarchy headed by the King (referred to as "Ngwenyama", meaning "Lion") and his Queen Mother (Ndlovukazi or "Female Elephant"). The Queen Mother is the one who gets elected by the Royal Council after the King dies. She can have only one son who is expected to marry wives from all walks of Swazi life.
_ICON_infrastructure Infrastructure/roads
Swaziland has one airport near Manzini but air travel isn’t recommended. Most visitors would fly in at Johannesburg, Nelspruit or Durban and drive in. The main roads are generally in fine condition and allow you to see most of the country rather comfortably. Please note that all border posts close for the evening, most as early as 4 o’clock.
_icon_seasons Climate
Swaziland has a tropical to near temperate climate: warm summers with late afternoon, cooling showers (November to March) and dry, moderate winters (April to October).

DID YOU KNOW?
Swaziland is ruled by an unique system of dual monarchy: the King and the Queen Mother. He is often referred to as “Ngwenyama”, meaning “Lion” and symbolizes courage, heroism and strength. She is respectfully called Ndlovukazi (Female Elephant) and stands for wisdom and spirituality.
