Got a quote and want us to beat it? Well, we most likely can!* |
E-mail us the quote for a stay or tour anywhere in southern Africa and we will try to beat it, without ever compromising on service or quality! |
| *Some reasons we can’t beat a quote:
1. Your tour operator has closed an incredibly sharp deal with a certain provider that will even blow our minds; in that case we congratulate you!;
2. Your “budget accommodation” turns out to be the shoddiest hotel in town (although unlikely, we will let you know if that’s the case);
3. You are staying with family or friends in return for doing their dishes (we will never ask that from you!).
Otherwise there is a pretty good chance the zebra can save you a few bucks…So who you gonna e-mail?

Population South Africa has about 49.3 million inhabitants. It is often called the Rainbow Nation, due to the incredibly rich diversity of its people. The country has no less than eleven official languages. There is a great variety of dominant cultures and languages per region. Nationally Zulu (23.8%), Xhosa (17.6%) and Afrikaans (13.3%) are the most common mother tongues. English is South Africa’s lingua franca. All road signs and official documents are in English. |

Infrastructure/roads South Africa probably has the best infrastructure on the continent. There are major ports in Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. The most important airports are OR Tambo (Jo'burg) and Cape Town International but domestic flights are also available from airports in smaller cities. The roads are generally in excellent condition. The main highway is the N1 running through the heart of the country, connecting Cape Town and Johannesburg. The N2 takes you along the coast past highlights such as the Garden Route. |

Climate As South Africa is on the southern hemisphere, the seasons are reversed compared to those in Northern America and Europe. Winter is between June and September and summer from December till March. Most of the rainfall happens during warm, afternoon summer showers. With the exception of the Western Cape that has a Mediterranean climate with warm summers and moist, cooler winters. |

DID YOU KNOW? Jan van Riebeeck was sent to set up the way station in the Cape as a form of punishment for befrauding the VOC while heading the Tonkin trading post in Vietnam. Also, the Castle of Good Hope wasn’t build by Jan van Riebeeck, as is often thought. As a matter of fact, Van Riebeeck left the Cape four years before the construction started in 1666. It was completed in 1679, two years after Van Riebeeck died in Batavia (Jakarta).

Unique vegetation The Protea or sugar bush is one of South Africa’s national symbols. As a matter of fact it is a genus of flowering plants that, much like the Greek god Proteus it is named after, comes in many shapes and sizes. Over 90% of the sugar bush species in the world only occur in the Cape Floral Kingdom. Photo: ZippingZebra.com
